Fazluallah M. Khan, PE, MSCE                                                                                           President / Engineer

Mr. Khan is the President and operations manager of the firm. Fazal began his career working for a private developer and shortly thereafter moved on to a local engineering firm. Fazal took those experiences and decided to start his own firm. Fazal Khan & Associates, Inc. was started in 1997.

Fazal enjoys spending time getting to know his clients. He has the keen ability to see each persons' strength and weakness. He uses that ability to help each client grow their business. Fazal has an incredible ability to problem solve.

His design and construction engineering background are components that guide Fazal to be successful in driving down the price of a project. Fazal has been asked to review many failures in construction and has been able to problem solve a solution for those failures.

Fazal has over 25 years experience in design, construction engineering and project management of commercial, residential and industrial land developments. He is responsible for business management, procurement of projects, review project designs by staff, direct junior and senior engineers and is directly interacting with local government officials.

Fazal also has a keen eye in property acquisitions. He spends a vast amount of time researching properties to determine their viability for clients. He works closely with communities to have a strong knowledge of their zoning ordinances and land use restrictions.

Carol Thurber, PE, CFM                                                                                                     Engineer

Over 25 years experience in design and municipal engineering, Mrs. Thurber has a vast knowledge of every aspect of civil engineering. Carol has worked for both large firms and small. She prides herself on commitment to engineering a project that is not only functional but cost efficient.

Carol provides vast engineering knowledge to a team that thrives on obtaining goals. Carol's experience as a design engineer affords her the deep understanding of functionality on a project. She understands intricate problems in a design and can offer a solution quickly and effortlessly on any project. She thoroughly investigates any problems and develops an efficient solution quickly.

Her understanding of design makes her the most valuable of review engineers. She is always interested in different solutions to engineering challenges and welcomes creative thinking. Carol is a strong team leader and is effective in her decision making processes.

Her responsibilities include Municipal Engineering Representative, Review Engineer, Sanitary and Pump Station Design, Project Management, Utility, Paving and Grading Design, Flood Plain Management, Review design and specifications for both municipal and private clients, MDEQ and FEMA review and Submittal, Interface with local and government officials, preparation of proposals and verification of due diligence on new projects, feasibility studies, construction specifications and water main and sanitary sewer master planning.

Carol is actively involved in her community and enjoys being a part of the planning of her community and was recently active in the Master Plan update in Orion Township. She also serves as Chairperson of the Orion Township Planning Commission.

Donald King, PS                                                                                                                  Surveyor

As President of the Survey Department, Don King is responsible for coordination and management of the survey staff. Don is a hands on surveyor who is in the field daily. He has been a surveyor for over 30 years.

Don has the knowledge and experience to complete any type of survey necessary. He completes feasibility studies, reviews title work for accuracies, topographic surveys, boundary surveys, construction layout for utilities as well as horizontal and vertical control.  

Don performs ATLA/ACSM surveys as necessary for banks as well as property owners. Don completes surveys through ranging from ½ acre to 400 acres traversing through multiple sections. Don also manages the inspection team and coordinates all inspectors in the field.

Don has worked with the Department of Roads for Macomb County to determine and describe property being acquired for the relocation of Schoenherr, Heydenreich and Callens Roads.  

Don has experience preparing site plans for proposed gravel/sand excavation projects in Washington and Oxford Townships. As well as preparing as-built drawings, as needed.

Shannon L. Filarecki, PE                                                                                                    Engineer

Throughout the course of her career, Shannon has been responsible for managing multiple design and construction engineering projects of varying scopes for a variety of clients. Her experience is primarily in the area of municipal civil engineering. While working for private consulting engineering firms, Shannon's project assignments typically involved acting as the municipal engineer in communities that did not have an engineering or planning department.

Responsibilities have included providing plan review services, meetings with potential developers to provide direction with respect to the local, county, state and federal regulatory requirements. Shannon has also provided design and construction engineering on various commercial, industrial, and residential developments.

As Director of Public Works for Hartland Township, she was responsible for managing all aspects of the Public Works Department as well as designing and completing the work personally. Shannon managed contract negotiations with the water system operators and a multitude of contractors and consultants.

Steve M. Henige                                                                                                                
Engineer
/ Construction Observer

Mr. Henige is a thorough designer with over 17 years experience in engineering, construction observation and project management.

Steve is responsible for site development projects including paving, grading, road and underground utility piping systems. His road projects have included resurfacing and new pavement for MDOT, Wayne County and Macomb County.

Mr. Henige represents our clients as the construction observer on Road Reconstruction, Concrete Road Patching, Pipe Lining, Water Main, Sidewalk/ADA ramps, and restoration construction activities to ensure compliance with design plans.

Steve is also responsible for the engineering and design of traffic circles, project cost estimating, quantity take-offs and construction observation of a wide range of projects for FKA.

Ottavio Palazzolo                                                                                                                Engineer / Construction Observer / GIS

Ottavio is a driven leader who is constantly looking for opportunities to gain knowledge and better project solutions. Mr. Palazzolo is proven to be extremely reliable by co-workers, employers as well as clients. Ottavio is dedicated to each project he works on and strives to complete every job with the best design solutions in mind. He is a team player who works well with others expanding on project knowledge and ensuring projects are fully understood by everyone on the project team.

Mr. Palazzolo's responsibilities include; plot plans, site plans, design layouts, utilities, grading, and septic system design.

Matthew J. Blonde                                                                                                              Civil Designer / Construction Observer

Mr. Blonde is a diverse Civil Designer with 15 years experience.  He has been integral in the conceptual layout and design of a multitude of private subdivision design projects. Mr. Blonde exercises great communication skills in coordinating plan reviews through a wide assortment of review and permitting agencies.

Matthew is responsible for grading plans, utility plans, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and water main profiles, drainage area maps, soil erosion plans, road plans and profiles, as well as assists in engineering reviews.

Laura Ambrose                              
Civil Designer

Ms. Ambros possesses over 25 years experience designing in the engineering field. Laura has a keen sense for detail and uses her vast experience in designing challenges. Her experience includes both large and small firms.

Laura's responsibilities include water, storm, sanitary and pump station design, project management, utility, paving and grading design, as well as handling all exhibit "B"s.
